ACADEMIC LIFEJoan of Arc Academy offers a truly bilingual education that ensures that students are fully conversant in both English and French languages. With 100% of the Junior and Senior Kindergarten fees tax deductible, parents see Joan of Arc as a high quality, professional daycare option. We teach Junior Kindergarten and Senior Kindergarten entirely in French, except for Maths in SK, during a full day, and the children's bilingualism progresses with amazing speed. A number of Grade 1 to 8 classes are conducted in French of a quality that is consistent with the highest standards of a French language school. These classes include French, Social Studies, Physical Education, Religion (to Grade 3) and Art (to Grade 5). Other classes are conducted in English, at a standard that is consistent with the highest quality English language schools. Subjects taught in English include English, Math, Science, Religion (Grades4-8) and Art (Grades 6-8). A rich learning environment for every gradeJoan of Arc Academy is a private catholic school in Ottawa that goes beyond the Ontario Ministry of Education curriculum to create enrichment opportunities, challenge students and encourage creativity, while achieving a solid mastery of essential knowledge. For example, Grade 6, 7 and 8 students explore subjects such as public speaking, robotics, Japanese calligraphy & arts and conflict resolution. Teachers and role modelsJoan of Arc Academy teachers and staff are more than educators; they are role models. Our teachers believe that a school can do more than just develop academic skills, as important as those are. They know that a well-rounded school experience results in a well-rounded contributing member of the community. ComputersAcademy students use the school's computer lab and computers in the classrooms. Students receive computer training and computer workshops as part of regular classroom activities. ReligionJoan of Arc students take part in a religious education program that is based on the school's Roman Catholic roots. Part of the success of the program is attributed to the school's policy of welcoming and respecting girls from all religious traditions. LibraryJoan of Arc Academy has an in-school library with services that include book lending, story time, reading time for each class, research assistance and supervised Internet use. Community ServiceJoan of Arc Academy girls are involved in the community so they learn the value of contribution and participation. Students in Grades 5 to 8 participate in programs for elderly and disabled persons and in programs that help other children. Older students also work with younger ones as reading buddies, reinforcing the community spirit of the school. |
