SCHOOL LIFE
Joan of Arc Academy is a private Catholic school that offers a rich assortment of activities for students outside the classroom. In addition to academics, students participate in science and math contests, art, dance, music and travel.
Our Junior and Senior Kindergarten classes are an excellent fit for families looking for high quality day care. (All Junior Kindergarten and Senior Kindergarten fees are tax deductible). Professional, mature and qualified teachers create a warm and welcoming atmosphere for our youngest students, and our Before School and After School programs are of great assistance to working parents.
Hours
Classes are held from 8:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m., Monday to Friday.
We provide schoolyard supervision from 8:00 a.m.
We offer after-school care until 6:00 p.m.
Arts
Joan of Arc students can take part in programs such as interpretative movement, provided by Tournesol Dance, as well as art, drama and music activities that include the school choir.
Athletics
Joan of Arc athletic activities promote fitness, sportsmanship and teamwork. In addition to the physical education curriculum, Joan of Arc students can participate in extracurricular sports such as competitive soccer, basketball, volleyball, badminton and cross-country running.
Lunchtime activities
Lunchtime activities include Chess Club, Science Club, Reading Club, board games, puzzles, and arts and crafts.
After-school programs
We offer an after-school program from 3:45 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. After a snack time, students do homework and may take part in other activities such as dance, Spanish, visual arts and our weekly swimming program at Dovercourt Recreation Centre.
Travel
Joan of Arc girls in senior grades have taken part in class trips to locations as far as the Yukon and Mexico as well as to many places in Quebec and Ontario.
Summer day camp
Each year, our Academy organizes a French language day camp in July and August. Camp includes a wide range of outings and activities, and accepts students from ages 4 to 12.
Parent volunteering
Parents and guardians of students at Joan of Arc take part in school life through volunteer activities. Their diverse backgrounds give the school a wealth of experience to draw on. Each family is expected to provide at least 15 hours of volunteer time to school activities annually or to pay a volunteer service fee.
Transportation
Most parents drive their daughters to and from school, often carpooling with other parents. Since Joan of Arc is close to the Transitway, some parents drop their daughters off, leave their cars at the school and take an express bus downtown, returning to pick-up their daughters after work.
Numbers permitting, the school makes arrangements with a private transportation service for students. Please contact the Registrar for more details. |
